07 / Try the work first

Do not take our word for it. Try the work first.

Before paying for a workshop, spend a little time with the process. Try an exercise. Then decide whether this is the kind of work you have been looking for.

  1. 01

    Action vs Emotion

Take one line you already know. Say it once to convince, once to threaten, once to plead. Same words. Different action. Feeling is the result, not the task.

  2. 02

    The 5Ws

Who are you? Where are you? When is this? What just happened? Why does this moment matter? Write each answer as a fact the character would know.

  3. 03

    Observation

Watch one person for ten minutes. Note job, tempo, how they wait, how they hold something. Steal one physical detail for a character.

  4. 04

    Character background

Before the first line: what does this person want this year, fear this year, and hide from the other person in the scene?

  5. 05

    Imagination

Change one given circumstance and play the same scene. Notice what the body does.

  6. 06

    Reading list

Start with Stella Adler on building a character, then a Meisner introduction. Read to practise, not to collect quotes.

Free recorded mini-class: Why feeling is not enough for an actor

The recorded mini-class will sit here when the file is delivered. Until then, use the exercises and the workshop footage on the reviews page.
